HOW DO YOU CARE FOR ARAN GARMENTS?Aran knitwear is a natural fibre that is odour resistant and for this reason, it will not require frequent washing. When your Aran garment does require cleaning, please hand wash in cold water for 5-10 minutes with a wool detergent then dry flat. As wool is a natural fibre, avoid excess rubbing while washing and squeeze all excess water from the garment. The wet garment can be rolled in a towel to remove excess water before drying flat. Please, NEVER machine wash or tumble dry any of our garments!

HOW LONG SHOULD AN ARAN SWEATER LAST?If you follow the correct care procedures your Aran products should last your lifetime. A big statement but, these products have stood the test of time and will continue to do so. As investment pieces go, it doesn’t get any better.
-
WHAT IS THE RIGHT FIT FOR AN ARAN SWEATER?The traditional Aran sweater can be worn to fit or oversized. It really depends on the wearer and what style they prefer.
-
WHAT MAKES AN ARAN SWEATER?An Aran sweater is made from a natural cream-coloured yarn called báinín. This is Irish for ‘cream’ and it’s pronounced, “bawneen”. The yarn comes from sheep’s wool and originally sweaters were made with unwashed wool that still contained natural sheep lanolin (oils). The processes have developed and progressed over the years and yarns today are treated while still being water repellent but without the weight and the unwashed smell – thankfully!
-
WHERE IS YOUR KNITWEAR MADE?Aran Woollen Mills manufacture our mainline knitwear in the West of Ireland and have been doing so since 1965. Our founder Mrs Maura Hughes was passionate not only about keeping the craft of Aran alive but also about driving employment in the West of Ireland. This remains an important focus for the business to this day and we continue to employ and develop these skills locally. In addition, we have carefully chosen trusted partners who we work with to provide additional collections to complement our range.
